Rwanda wants a network of 330,000 satellites

The space agency of Rwanda, which is only a few months old, wants to build a mega constellation of almost 330,000 (internet) satellites. Which stands in an application to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

Also because Rwanda has so far built only two so-called cubesats (compact satellites), observers do not assume that the application is very serious. The real purpose of the entry could be to denounce the supremacy of western states.

There are currently less than 5,000 satellites active and a total of about 24,000 artificial objects orbiting the Earth. Some 65,000 satellites are planned to provide internet to remote regions.

The first Rwandan satellite, the RwaSat-1, was only launched in 2019 and provides key data to the Ministry of Agriculture. A second satellite Icyerekezo connects a school near Lake Kivu to the internet.
