Russians are disappointed in smartphones of Chinese brands

According to Kommersant, sales of smartphones from China fell sharply in Russia. On the contrary, demand for Samsung and Apple products has increased.

Shipments of Huawei and Xiaomi smartphones decreased by 26% and 20%, respectively. In 2020, 7.7 million smartphones of these brands were imported to Russia.

The total share of smartphones of Chinese brands in the Russian market in 2020 was 47%. If the drop in sales continues, their share in 2021 will drop to 25%, experts predict.

Samsung smartphone sales in 2020 increased by 7% to 11 million devices, while Apple increased sales by 17% to 4 million devices. In total, 10% fewer smartphones were imported to Russia than in the previous year – 43.3 million units.

One of the reasons for the decline in sales of Huawei smartphones is the sanctions imposed against this company in the United States. It cannot purchase components for its smartphones from American suppliers, nor can it license Android with built-in Google services.

In 2021, Xiaomi was blacklisted for contacting the Chinese military. The restrictions affecting this company are not so serious, American investors are prohibited from investing in Xiaomi, and their Xiaomi shares must be sold by November 2021.
