In a carport on the road to the memorial, a vehicle caught fire on Sunday afternoon and was badly damaged. The fire brigade was alerted around 4.30 p.m. At this point in time, it was unclear to the control center how close the shelter was to the house.
20 emergency services under the direction of chief fire chief Torben Broich drove to the street Zum Ehrenmal in Reiferscheid. In the meantime, neighbors had been able to contain the flames with powder extinguishers and water hoses, but were unable to fight the fire that had apparently started in the vehicle’s engine compartment.
The windshield and front tires had burst, the paint on the hood had melted. The wood of the carport, which had been set up a few meters in front of the residential building, was damaged by the heat, but not yet inflamed. The members of the volunteer fire brigade were able to extinguish the fire quickly. They caught the leaking operating materials with binding agents and checked the temperature with a thermal imaging camera for some time.
Fire truck did not get through
For the owner of a parked car, however, the use will have consequences. Because the vehicle was parked so unfavorably on a narrow street at the entrance to the town that the fire engine could not pass it. With the smoke column already in sight, the soldiers had to get out and move the car with muscle strength in order to get to their place of action as quickly as possible.
A following vehicle evaded a dirt road, which also led to the destination, but not that fast. In such a case, said police spokesman Burkhard Rick, the driver would have to reckon with 100 euros and one point in the Flensburg central register.
