Rockstar will make NPCs smarter

GTA VI is particularly awaited by the players, it must be said that even if GTA V is excellent and that its online mode benefits from new content broadcast regularly, the title’s release dates back 8 years now …

And since Rockstar does not wish to speak about the project, it is the patents that do.

The studio has thus filed a patent with the USPTO concerning the behavior of NPCs located in the cities of its games.

Called “System and method fo virtual navigation in a gaming environment”, it is an artificial intelligence that should allow crowds to perform actions that are both more varied and complex according to different patterns at each moment.

The NPCs will thus be able to have their own occupations, manage their movements in a way that is at the same time random, but coherent with the environment, manage their behavior vis-à-vis road traffic or other NPCs. This IA will also concern the vehicles which animate the city centers.

It would be possible to create kinds of categories of characters, with more or less aggressive character traits and behaviors, or conversely, more fearful.

This type of technology could help relieve the material while providing a more lively and credible game for players. The patent notably mentions the use of a dedicated server, the game would thus require an internet connection to take advantage of these improvements.
