Ricardo Pereira makes history by signing a contract with Netflix

Who works hard, achieves. The maxim fits Ricardo Pereira like a glove. At least that’s how those closest to him explain his success. Known for the tenacity and diligence with which he embraces each project, the actor has long drawn up a plan to succeed in the acting world, which has always involved the internationalization of his career. It did almost two decades ago.

Now he is crowned with a ‘position’ that, he says in a statement sent to ‘Boa Onda’, makes him “very happy”: he will be a creative producer for Netflix for the national market, ‘showrunner’, actor and, in the future, also a director of productions for this streaming platform. The actor will have the task of identifying Portuguese projects, in Spain and Brazil, that can be developed by the platform. An added value for the national production and another step towards the rise of one of the most solid performers of his generation.

“I enter this new stage with enthusiasm, commitment, dedication and responsibility. It is a huge artistic challenge, very demanding, but at the same time it will allow me to become more and more involved in the creative process. Over the years I have always been interested in work and knowledge in the most diverse areas of my profession, always in search of artistic versatility”, justifies the 43-year-old actor.

“LIKE AN ATHLETE”
In 2018, living moments of glory in Brazil, but maintaining projects in Portugal, Ricardo Pereira acknowledged in an interview with Globo (which he now abandons) that he faced work “like an athlete”. In fact, the artist has never stopped ‘to breathe’ since he made his debut in 2000: he has participated – often as a protagonist – in almost 40 projects for cinema and more than 50 for television, including series, soap operas and as a presenter. He also made dozens of theater plays.

When Globo opened its doors wide for him, in 2004, to star in the soap opera ‘Como Uma Onda’, he didn’t hesitate and moved to Brazil with all his weapons and luggage. She grabbed the opportunity tooth and nail and, four telenovelas later, ended up signing a long-term contract with the Brazilian station. His then-girlfriend (now wife), Francisca, followed him.

He saw three children born in Terras de Vera Cruz, but always with his bags packed, since he never stopped working for SIC, a rare case among actors who aspired to internationalization.

He tried his luck in the USA and, in between, was directed by Fanny Ardant in ‘Obstinated Cadences’ (2013). With the new challenge on Netflix, the doors of the whole world are finally open to you!
