The sci-fi 3rd person of the Returnal event will be one of the first exclusives for the PlayStation 5. It is developed by the Finnish studio Housemarque, which has years of experience with Sony consoles and is responsible for such titles as Resogun, Matterfall or the Super Stardust series. However, Returnal is undoubtedly the biggest project that these developers have embarked on so far, and in the new video they mainly present frenetic fights.
At first glance, Returnal’s style is reminiscent of the cross between Anth and Dead Space, promising a wide range of weapon modifications, various futuristic survival tools and the concept of improvements, which carry a number of dangers because they come from extraterrestrial sources.
The main heroine Selene is shipwrecked on an enemy alien planet and is caught in a time loop. The game contains rogue-like elements, each death will mean a restart of the loop and another attempt to decipher the strange visions that the heroine is suffering from. It is clear from the trailer that there will be more than enough slimy tentacles trying to kill us in Returnal.
The authors promise to take full advantage of the capabilities of the PlayStation 5, whether it’s graphics effects, fast SSD recording, or the DualSense driver and Tempest 3D audio system. Returnal is coming out on March 19.
