Republican donor wants Tucker Carlson to run for president

A political campaign calling itself Draft Tucker PAC released a campaign ad on Thursday calling on the Republican Party to choose former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson as its candidate for US president in 2024, writes AFP.

“Republicans need a new leader, and Tucker Carlson is ready to lead,” reads the 30-second commercial, which describes the conservative TV profile as a clear winner against Joe Biden.

Behind the campaign is ex-politician and Republican donor Chris Ekstrom. However, the Draft Tucker PAC, which filed its registration last month after Carlson was fired from Fox News, still needs to convince its self-appointed candidate to run.

The ad urges viewers to sign a petition to encourage Carlson to pursue the candidacy.

Ekstrom tells The Hill that he is concerned that neither Republican front-runner Donald Trump nor Trump’s leading challenger — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — are moving the debate in the right direction.

– I am very concerned that they will not take the debate as far to the right as it should be, he tells the news agency.
