Prague – Today, a meeting will take place in Prague on the occasion of the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize for this year, which takes place in Oslo. The meeting will be attended by representatives of all three organizations for the protection of human rights, which are laureates of the award. Speaker of the House of Representatives Markéta Pekarová Adamová (TOP 09) and Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský (Pirates) will also be at the festive part of the event.

The Nobel Prize was awarded to the Belarusian human rights activist and founder of the Vyasna organization Ales Byaljacki, the Russian human rights organization Memorial and the Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties. Representatives of these three organizations and their supporters will attend today’s meeting, which will also include a press conference.

This year’s awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to defenders of human rights from post-Soviet countries was welcomed by government and opposition politicians in the Czech Republic. The laureates were then congratulated, for example, by Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) and Minister Lipavský. According to the humanitarian organization People in Need, the importance of the awardees for the protection of human rights in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine is key.

Bialjacki’s wife, Natalja Pinčuková, reported according to the AP agency that the Belarusian authorities did not allow Bialjacki to send a speech at the Nobel Prize ceremony from prison. In Oslo, instead of the laureate, Pinčuková will give a speech.
