Renfe launches a mobility app with taxis, bikes and electric scooters

Renfe It is no longer only the main passenger rail transport company in Spain. The new forms of mobility have pushed it to become a service provider.

And that is how, in the midst of the premiere of free train tickets, it has emerged dōcōthe new comprehensive mobility platform which makes Renfe the first public company to manage door-to-door mobility services, both private and shared transport.

This strange name is the result of the acronym for where and how, and it is nothing more than an app that allows you to plan, book and, through a single payment, use services such as train, metro, bus, taxi, bicycle, VTC, motorcycle or scooter.

At the moment it has not been detailed which companies will be integrated into the new app, which is not yet available. It will also allow you to consult the cheapest routes, the fastest or the most ecological route, explains Renfe.

dōcō is in an initial phase of attracting ‘early adopters’, who will be the first people to be able to use the application that will be launched gradually in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the demand to acquire the free Renfe season tickets for frequent travelers it has been much higher than expected, as is logical.

The premiere of this Government measure, aimed at discouraging the use of the car, shot 50% the number of travelers compared to regular use. Although a reinforcement of the service has not been communicated, from the Ministry of Transport they defend that the public network has the capacity to absorb the increase in demand.

From September 1 to December 31 – this date may be extended – frequent travelers will be able to purchase, with a deposit, a season ticket that in the case of Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distancia is fully subsidized.

In the case of the new high-speed passes and Avant passes, the discount is 50%. On the other hand, five Autonomous Communities have extended to 50% the Government discount on transport passes (which include bus, tram or metro), so they can be enjoyed simultaneously from September 1.
