A year ago, that was a big deal, as the vaccine had been waiting since March, when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out around the world. Last December, anti-vaxers were not yet as high as they are now, and the list of people waiting for the vaccine has been widely addressed.

It was in Nitra

Historically, the first vaccine was given on Saturday evening at the University Hospital in Nitra. At that time, vaccination against COVID-19 began. “We won the bet that there would be a vaccine by Christmas, it was a great effort. We are the first of the surrounding countries to be vaccinated, “ said the infectologist Krčméry.

Zuzana Krištúfková, a member of the expert council, was seconded. “We have a vaccine in Slovakia that will allow us to return to life. Millions of people have been vaccinated and today there is no doubt that it is safe. “ Krištúfková stated. None of them assumed that the vaccination would gradually become a dividing element of Slovaks.

The first batch

Only about 10,000 vaccines have arrived in Slovakia. At that time, 18 million doses were contracted worldwide. As you know, health workers, social workers’ home workers and critical infrastructure workers were vaccinated first. On the second day on Sunday (December 27), vaccinations of paramedics continued in addition to Nitra in Bratislava, Banská Bystrica and Košice.

The vaccine was not to be available to the public until sometime around Easter 2021.

Adverse effects

As TASR reported at that time, information on adverse reactions was taken into account. Comirnaty vaccine from the Pfizer consortium and BioNTech is intended for adults and adolescents from 16 years of age. It is given in two doses to the shoulder, with an interval of 21 days.

According to the State Institute for Drug Control (ŠÚKL), the most common side effects are usually mild and short-lived. These include pain and redness at the injection site, tiredness, headache, muscle and joint pain, chills and fever.

Since then, 2,733,090 people have been vaccinated in Slovakia. By yesterday (December 25, 2021), 2,545,329 people had been fully vaccinated in Slovakia.
