For healthcare professionals, the registration system will open later so that programmers can link it to the healthcare provider database over the weekend. “The reason is that no one is trying to cheat. Overtaking is unethical and unacceptable, “said Minister of Health Jan Blatný (for YES). The age of seniors is easy to check by birth number, but it is not yet clear how any health problems that people report when registering will be verified, which could give them a higher priority.
The issue of overtaking arose in connection with the State Institute of Public Health, which also vaccinated officials and their relatives who do not come into contact with the sick. The director of the institute, Pavel Březovský, resigned on Thursday because of this. “It was completely unacceptable, such excesses must not be repeated. Absolute priority is given to health professionals and seniors in retirement homes, “said Prime Minister Andrej Babiš.
The problem remains that the state does not have up-to-date data on how many people have been vaccinated – and thus data on how many doses of vaccines are still available. Recent data show that more than 70,000 people are vaccinated, and less than two hundred thousand vaccine doses have entered the country.
The vaccination centers were obliged to report all consumed doses by Thursday evening. Blatný estimates that the first seniors who register on Friday will be delivered next Thursday. “It depends on how the vaccination capacities will be filled,” the minister said. Priority are still being vaccinated by priority health professionals caring for covid patients and seniors in retirement homes. Many people will also receive a second dose, including Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. President Miloš Zeman should receive the first dose next week.
Vaccines will receive a certificate, thanks to which they will avoid quarantine when in contact with a positive person or when returning from high-risk countries. There is also talk that they will be able to go without restriction to sports matches or cultural performances, while others will have to submit a negative test.
There are currently 31 vaccination centers in the Czech Republic that receive vaccines. A large-capacity vaccination center has already been established in Brno, with others to follow in Prague and Ostrava. GPs will be involved when it reaches the general public. However, they will not enter the scene until the advent of AstraZeneca, which does not require storage at freezing temperatures.
The government’s vaccination strategy envisages a large involvement of governors and regional coordinators, who in recent days have criticized the preparation of the reservation system. For example, according to the chairman of the Association of Regions and the governor of South Bohemia, Martin Kuba (ODS), it was not possible to try in advance the onslaught that may arise after the start of registration. “After all, our main goal was to see how the system would react when tens of thousands of people from all over the country applied for it every day. If at that moment the database can correctly divide the dates and places for those interested to come, “he added.
