Registered unemployment in Estonia decreased to 7.1%

At the end of August, there were 46,646 registered unemployed.

According to the Unemployment Insurance Fund, this figure is 7.1% of the workforce between the ages of 16 and retirement age; compared with the previous month, the number of unemployed decreased by 0.3 percentage points.

In August, 5773 new unemployed were registered, a month earlier – 6084 and a year earlier, that is, in August 2020 – 6944, according to statistics from the Unemployment Office.

At the end of August, the registered unemployment rate was the highest in Ida-Viru County, reaching 11.8%. This is followed by Valga County (9.2%), Põlvamaa (7.8%) and Võrumaa (7.4%).

The lowest unemployment rate was in Hiiumaa (4%).
