realme GT Master Edition: test, review and opinion. King of the middle shelf?

The manufacturer promotes his device with a slogan “Mid-range Killer 2021”. However, although the realme GT Master Edition has many very strong advantages, I would be far from calling it a slayer of mid-range smartphones. Competition still has a lot to defend itself in several aspects.

I’ll also add that I don’t really like the name, which is complicated and confusing. realme GT Master Edition is actually a cheaper and poorer alternative to realme GT, although its designation may suggest something else.

The greatest strength of realme GT Master Edition is performance

I rarely start testing with performance, but the realme GT Master Edition really shines in this respect.

The heart of the phone is a 6-nanometer unit Snapdragon 778G. It is a powerful unit that does not differ much from the premium segment in terms of computing power.

In Geekbench, realme GT Master Edition dialed me 61 percent. better result than OnePlus Nord CE (PLN 1499) and by 52 percent. better than the Galaxy A52 5G (PLN 1899). New smartphone outclasses the vast majority of models up to PLN 2,000and even above this amount it is not difficult to find less powerful phones.

In daily use realme GT Master Edition it flashes nice. Applications load quickly and animations are ultra-smooth. Class.

This is largely due to the realme UI overlay, which is packed with functions and pleasant to use, and at the same time extremely light.

What’s coolest about it is Snapdragon 778G does not tend to heat up and is kind to the battery. The top 888 unit is more efficient, but it heats up like hell. There is no such problem in realme GT Master Edition.

What about more demanding tasks? I downloaded a 2GB 4K movie and checked how long it would take to render it in the YouCut app on several smartphones that I had at hand. And yes:

  • realme GT Master Edition — 3 minuty i 24 sekundy;
  • OnePlus Nord CE — 4 minuty i 20 sekund;
  • Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra — 2 minuty i 33 sekundy.

realme GT Master Edition set the result exactly between a competitor of the same price class and a flagship for over PLN 5,000.

RAM is & hairsp; – & hairsp; depending on version & hairsp; – & hairsp; 6 or 8 GB. However, this space can be virtually expand in the settings, extracting an additional 2, 3 or 5 GB from the storage.

The realme GT Master Edition display is also very good

Not only did realme reach for AMOLED-a, it’s still one with image refreshing 120 Hz and touch at 360 Hz. At this price, it is the best you can imagine.

As a result, the colors are vivid, the blacks are deep, the dark interface saves the battery, and the smooth animation pleases the eye.

It is not the brightest panel possible, but it works even in bright sunlight.

The realme GT Master Edition screen is integrated with the fingerprint readerthat works very quickly and efficiently.

Unfortunately, for some reason the automatic brightness control is going crazy

I’ve been testing smartphones for 9 years, and I mention the automatic brightness adjustment & hairsp; – & hairsp; if I remember correctly & hairsp; – & hairsp; for the third time. Unfortunately, in this respect, the realme GT Master Editon draws attention to itself.

When the machine is turned on, the smartphone can suddenly that’s how to dim the display to zero. When I use my phone outside it is terribly irritating.

I have no idea if it’s a software bug or a faulty sensor. However, I know that this is not only a defect of the one I tested.

Solution? Manual brightness adjustment.

I also miss stereo speakers

If I were to point to a piece of equipment on which the manufacturer has cut the costs, it would be a loudspeaker.

realme GT Master Edition has a monaural speaker that is in addition very average qualityi. The sound is loud, so there are no problems with hearing the ringtone, but it lacks depth, which kills the fun of listening to music, or even watching movies and playing games.

Samsung or Xiaomi can offer decent stereo at this price. Of course, realme focused on other aspects so it’s understandable that it had to look for savings.

The realme GT Master Editon is just right for its price

realme has never had any special ambitions to create strictly photographic smartphones and it is no different in this case. On the back there are:

  • 64 Mpix main camera with f / 1.8 aperture;
  • 8 Mpix camera with f / 2.3 ultra wide angle lens;
  • 2 Mpix camera with macro lens.

Very standard equipment with very standard possibilities.

During the day, the realme GT Master Editon takes nice, detailed photos with saturated but unsaturated colors. The tonal range is not record-breaking (in this field the Samsungi are unmatched), but the smartphone does not have any above-average tendency to burn through the bright parts.

The smartphone can also cope with more difficult conditions, although then you have to make use of it night modethat boosts the brightness, detail and dynamics of your photos. However, access to artificial light is needed, because the matrix is unable to extract details from deep darkness.

During the day, the main camera and the one with an ultra-wide-angle lens generate photos of similar colors, but after dark, a gigantic jet shot. The wider angle likes to set a much too warm white balance.

The macro camera is so weak that it might as well not be there. Better to take a picture from the main camera with digital zoom.

Street photo mode is nothing special

The company boasts that the realme GT Master Edition is the only one with a special street photo mode. In India, the producer even established cooperation with local photographers. In fact, though, it’s a fairly simple feature that doesn’t do anything fancy.

When you turn on the street mode, the smartphone allows you to stiffly set the focus point by adjusting the shooting distance. If a passerby suddenly walks in front of the picture, the autofocus will not go haywire.

The manufacturer has also prepared a special one Street filterwhich increases the contrast a little, thus accentuating the shadows.

This is what the photo looks like in automatic mode:

And so with the Street filter:

There are many more color filters, but most were already available on previous realme smartphones.

If someone likes street photography, the special mode in the realme GT Master Edition may make his life a little easier, but this is not some outstanding killer-feature for which it would be worth buying this phone. In most phones, the focus can be locked manually, and the contrast can be increased in any editor after taking a photo.

The realme GT Master Edition battery is very good and the charging speed is a world champion

The manufacturer used a battery with a capacity of 4300 mAh. The cell is not very capacious, but the 6-nanometer system is not too demanding for it.

During everyday use, which boiled down to browsing the web, watching movies, listening to music and taking photos, I was able to calmly finish up to 6-8 hours on the screen during the day. 2 days of moderate use is not a problem.

And charging? Fairy tale. realme GE Master Edition comes with a power supply 65 Wwhich allows you to wring out such results:

  • 5 minutes: 1-27 percent
  • 10 minutes: 1-46 percent
  • 15 minutes: 1-65 percent
  • 20 minutes: 1-78 percent
  • 30 minutes: 1-99%
  • 31 minut — 1–100 proc.

Half an hour to full it revelation. With realme GT Master Edition you can forget about connecting the phone to the power adapter overnight, because it will be satisfied with charging during the morning toilet.

I also like the look of the realme GT Master Edition

The flagship variant is gray with a housing covered with vegan leather. However, I got the white version with a matte finish.

The design is simple but neat, which is not so obvious with realme. This manufacturer likes to use shimmering and fancy patterns, giant inscriptions or other favors that teenagers might like, but are rejected by many older consumers. realme GT Master Edition is more balanced in this version.

The back is matand thus pleasant to the touch and resistant to dirt and scratches. I could only stick to the shiny border, which ineffectively imitates metal.

Applied vibration motor is very good and generates pleasant taps. A pleasant surprise, because I was afraid that the realme GT Master Edition would be tailored only to the numbers that can be seen on press leaflets. And yet the Chinese also took care of details that are invisible at first glance.

Is it worth buying realme GT Master Edition?

The new realme smartphone offers high performance, a very good display, a decent camera, great vibrations, 5G connectivity and a solid battery with super fast charging. At a price of up to PLN 1,500, it is a really recommendable combination.

Only & hairsp; – & hairsp; just & hairsp; – & hairsp; up to PLN 1,500, because that’s how much the 6/128 GB variant costs. The 8/256 GB version is already PLN 1799, and at this price you can hunt for POCO F3, Galaxy A52 5G or OnePlus Nord 2, which can defend themselves with stereo speakers or better cameras.

Either way, realme GT Master Editon is one of the best smartphones in its class.
