realme GT 2 Pro: test and opinion. It does what other smartphones cannot

Each year, the market is flooded with dozens of smartphones that are barely distinguishable in terms of design, specifications and functions. Testing the realme GT 2 Pro was a nice stepping stone for me, because while it is a smartphone that has some serious shortcomings, it makes up for it with a few unique features.

The microscope makes the biggest impression on the realme GT 2 Pro

Macro photography is already the market standard, but most manufacturers are satisfied with simple 2-megapixel cameras that sharpen from about 4-5 cm. Alternatively, they use ultra wide-angle cameras with autofocus and a short focusing distance.

realme GT 2 Pro has a rather unique approach to the subject, because its additional camera & hairsp; – & hairsp; which the manufacturer calls the microscope & hairsp; – & hairsp; can take a photo from a distance of just 1-3 mm. The photographed object is in the picture 20 or 40 times greater than in reality.

After turning on the microscope mode, the smartphone activates two LED lightsthat illuminate the subject evenly. Good photos can therefore be taken in any lighting conditions. Some examples below.

In such a macro, practically everything looks cool, and most smartphones will not take such photos.

realme GT 2 Pro also has a lens with an extremely wide-eyed angle of view

Ultra-wide-angle lenses are now ubiquitous not only in smartphones from the upper but also lower price segments. Most smartphones have an angle of view between 110 and 120 degrees.

In this field, realme GT 2 Pro is ahead of the curve, because its lens has as much as possible 150-degree viewing angle. This is a record that only OnePlus 10 Pro can match.

Pictures can be taken as usual …

… ultra-wide angle, where the frame is cropped and has perspective correction applied …

… even wider, named in the software just 150 …

… Or with the fisheye effect.

realme GT 2 Pro fits incomparably more in the frame than most smartphones available on the market, but it does not work in every scenery. After activating mode 150, the smartphone turns off perspective correctionso frames full of straight lines can be massacred.

However, it all depends on the intentions of the photographer. Such a curved perspective has its charm and & hairsp; – & hairsp; consciously used & hairsp; – & hairsp; allows you to achieve unique effects that other smartphones could not cope with.

However, as I mentioned & hairsp; – & hairsp; mode 150 is optional. You can switch to approx. 120 degrees, thus enabling perspective correction. Then ultra wide-angle photos do not differ from those taken by other phones.

It’s a pity, that the camera interface is overcomplicated. Mode 150 is visible as a separate camera function, not the lens selection button, which only forces you to unnecessarily scroll through the menu.

In addition, the night mode does not work at 150 degrees, or even video shooting.

An interesting distinguishing feature of realme GT 2 Pro is the 3D photo mode

The name “3D photos” is quite misleading because it is not about true 3D. The realme GT 2 Pro camera can do animated pictures with four different stereoscopic effects.

Achieving such an effect is very simple; you just need to select the appropriate mode and take a photo, and the software will process it and generate the video itself. Sometimes, however, realme GT 2 Pro cannot cope with precise background clipping and the whole process has to be repeated.

3D photos work not only with people, but also with animals or objects. It is only important that the photographed object stands out clearly from the background.

Pretty cool stuff that doesn’t require any skills or time-consuming processing. Such animations, for example, uploaded to Instagram Stories may look more interesting than ordinary, static photos.

The leaf housing is great

realme GT 2 Pro is the first smartphone with a housing made of special biopolymerfor the production of which fallen leaves of trees or tall oil are used.

Apart from the ecological advantages of this material, it is just very practical. The housing looks original, fits well in the hand, does not collect dirt and will potentially be more resistant to damage than glass. The producer boasts that it feels like paper and it is actually quite an accurate association.

I have said time and time again that when thoughtfully used, plastic can be better than glass and the realme GT 2 Pro is a great example of this. In combination with metal frame the premium feeling remains and the material has a lot of practical advantages.

realme GT 2 Pro has some shortcomings, however

The smartphone starts from the level 3499 PLN. In its price range, it stands out from the crowd, but its unique features have been paid for with a few compromises. realme GT 2 Pro has several features that other smartphones do not have, but there are also not a few that a phone for over PLN 3,000 should have.

First – telephoto lens. There is not even a simple 2x webcam here, so the zoom is done entirely digitally.

Po drugie- wireless charging. The manufacturer boasts of fast wired charging, which does the job, but the induction would increase the convenience of using the phone.

Thirdly – waterproof certificate. Of course, the mere absence of it does not necessarily mean that the realme GT 2 Pro will not survive contact with water, but it would be nice if the manufacturer made it clear that it can be used without fear in the rain.

In this price range, it may not be an absolute standard, but also no whim.

Besides, realme GT 2 Pro is quite a successful smartphone

6.7 inch ekran AMOLED it has a variable frequency to 120 Hz. It displays a nice and smooth image, and at the same time is energy-saving.

Stereo speakers they play very soprano. They lack depth, but at least the sound is even, loud and clear.

The realme GT 2 Pro camera & hairsp; – & hairsp; with the exception of the aforementioned & hairsp; – & hairsp; goodies has a large sensor and optical image stabilization, thanks to which it takes solid photos. In more difficult lighting conditions it works very well, extracting a lot of details even from deep darkness.

The smartphone works hellish fast and smooth. Surprisingly, there are also no problems with overheating; I tried to torture it in various ways and it only got hot (but still within comfort) after 20 minutes of 8K recording.

The 5000 mAh battery is sooooo good. 8-9h on the screen is at your fingertips, and since the realme GT 2 Pro consumes little energy in standby mode, you can easily pull out the weekend on a single charge. And that the same landing it takes about 35 minutes to be fully operational, and you cannot complain about the comfort of everyday use.

Used the vibrations are brilliant. Strongly perceptible, yet pleasant and giving intuitive feedback while navigating the interface.

Is it worth buying realme GT 2 Pro?

The realme flagship has some solid distinguishing features, the most impressive of which are the microscope and the 150-degree lens. These are not unnecessary bells and whistles, but solutions that give a lot of fun and allow you to do what other smartphones cannot.

On the other hand, it is a transaction of the something for something, because realme GT 2 Pro has a few shortcomings from the competition. With 3500 PLN in your pocket, you can buy Samsung Galaxy S21 FE or OnePlus 9 Pro +. Both have a good telephoto lens, wireless and reverse charging, and a waterproof certificate, which was missing from the realme flagship.

Certainly, realme GT 2 Pro is worth attention, because it stands out from the crowd, and at the same time is a smartphone not only original, but also simply successful. There is one, and this is an invaluable asset nowadays.
