In the past few months, lived between anxieties and worries about the pandemic, thinking about holidays seemed a utopia but the Italians today are gearing up to not give up a few days of tranquility and relaxation. Between economic uncertainty, new rules of distancing on the beaches and the fear of the virus, meanwhile, we are preparing for a summer in the garden or in the second holiday homes.

This is what emerges from the latest analysis of idealo – the leading international price comparison portal in Europe – which monitored the interest of Italians online towards 100 types of holiday-themed products, discovering that in the last month there has been a boom in searches for garden or terrace items (+ 2288.1%).

Summer 2020 at home: the most desired objects for the garden and terrace

According to a survey carried out by Kantar on behalf of idealo in June 2020, only 36.5% of respondents replied that he will go on vacation this summer, 31.7% do not know yet and 31.9% do not he will go there at all; therefore the need to prepare one’s home for the summer grows.

There are about 6 out of 10 homes in Italy that have an outdoor space which, as emerges from online research conducted on the portal in the last month, Italians are preparing to spend their next holidays.

There is a boom in interest for swimming pools (+ 5052.9%) in the various models to choose from depending on the wishes and how much you want to spend. The most popular are the inflatable pools, which can be placed in the garden or on a small terrace to ensure fun and relaxation for the whole family.

Searches are also growing for garden tables (+ 2843.1%), outdoor umbrellas (+ 2174.4%), garden furniture sets (+ 2008.0%), garden chairs (+ 1528.6%) and barbecue (+ 442.7%).

It doesn’t matter where, as long as outdoors

For the lucky ones who will go on holiday this year, the destination seems to be indifferent as long as it is about holidays in motion, in the open air and at a distance.

From the research conducted in the last month on the portal In fact, those for water sports and fishing products (+ 472.8%), outdoor clothing and accessories (+ 220.8%) and items for climbing and mountaineering (+ 151.3%) are growing. Inflatables and kayaks in particular are the most sought after products, with an increase of 1230.3% compared to the same period last year.

Compared to 2019, searches for camping items also increased with an average growth of + 102.3% for products in the category.

At the sea but with the inflatable mattress

The sea is confirmed as one of the favorite destinations by Italians also for the summer of 2020. According to the survey commissioned by idealo, in fact, 60.9% of the respondents who make a holiday will go to the sea. Online searches for beach products have increased by + 156.2% in the last month.

Among the most desired products of this summer is the inflatable mattress, whose online searches have increased by + 378.0%.

The portal has compiled the ranking of the top 5 most desired inflatable mattresses and in first place is confirmed the magical pink giant flamingo of Intex, followed by the giant island with parasol and the floating hammock always from Intex, the giant island Tropical Breeze by Bestway is the classic single mattress in fifth place.

The fluctuation of prices on holiday products

Monitoring the price trend of the desired products and choosing to buy in the period of the year where the biggest discounts are recorded allows you to save a lot, as for camping items which in the last month have recorded a drop in average prices -25.5% compared to the same period of 2019, or to decide to postpone a purchase to a better period, as in the case of items for the garden and outdoor which, instead, increased by + 17.9%.

If you have a specific product in mind, you can set a price target on the idealo portal and, through the «ideal price» function, wait to receive the notification as soon as the product reaches it. The savings in these cases can be even higher: in the last month, for example, outdoor jackets have recorded a decrease in prices of -34.2% compared to the same period of 2019.
