Razer to release portable Android-based gaming console

Razer has i collaboration with Qualcomm told that an Android-based handheld game console will be introduced on October 15. The gaming console offers 5G and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon G3X Gen 1.

The chipset has been specifically developed for gaming machines and supports 4K @ 60fps, as well as 10-bit HDR. The device will be able to both run local games and stream games from the cloud. We take it for granted that Razer’s gaming console has access to the Play Store.

The fact that the console offers 5G could mean that the device can be used to make calls and use it as a (bulky) phone, but it is perhaps more likely that only data connectivity will be offered. Razer hasn’t confirmed any other hardware, but a developer unit Qualcomm and Razer unveiled almost a year ago may provide an indication.

That console (see top image) had a 6.65-inch OLED (1080p / 120Hz), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, Snapdragon Sound, USB-C, a 5MP webcam, as well as a 6000mAh battery. Razer’s portable game console could thus become one of the most expensive on the market, in terms of hardware.
