Razer shows off Blade with Ryzen 9 6900HX and Core i9-12900H

New year and new laptops are hailed from most manufacturers and here Razer is no exception. Razers Blade machines are not a newcomer when it comes to the upper segment of laptops and even the edition stamped 2022 connects to that segment. The models that stand in turn go under the names Razer Blade followed by 14, 15 or 17, which speaks of the screen size.

What is a little special about this year’s edition is that the 14-inch model comes with AMD’s new Ryzen 9 6900HX which is equipped with 8 cores and 16 wires. Blades 15 and 17 are configured instead with processors from Intel. This is where Intel’s latest generation in the form of “Alder Lake” for laptops comes into play. More specifically, it is the Core i7-12800H with 6 P-cores and 8 E-cores for a total of 20 wires. The other option from team blue is the Core i9-12900H with the same set of cores and wires as the i7 model, but with slightly higher clock frequencies.

On the graphics card side, it’s like Nvidia that applies all the way, where the top specification is the Geforce RTX 3080 Ti for laptops. Unsurprisingly, the 14-inch is the only one to have the RTX 3080 Ti as an alternative, while the 15 and 17 inches have to make do with up to RTX 3070 Ti for laptops at best – at least according to the early specification sheets.

When it comes to primary memory, the situation is reversed and the lowest level is visible on the smallest computer, where the ceiling is 16 GB. For working memory, the 14-inch model has to settle for 16 GB. Out of the box come the bigger siblings with the same amount of memory, but can be upgraded to 64 GB. All memory configurations run in two channels and at a speed of 4,800 MHz. With the Razer Blade 14, the memory is soldered, but for the 15- and 17-inches, the memory is thus possible to upgrade afterwards.

Upgrade options are also available on the storage front for the two larger computers, which have a free M.2 slot with support for both NVM Express and SATA. From the factory, the 14- and 15-inch models have storage of a maximum of 2 TB NVM Express over PCI Express 4.0. The 17-inch model, on the other hand, has the option of being delivered with up to 4 TB of storage capacity.

On screen, the Razer Blades 2022 edition can be configured with 1080p-resolved variants with a refresh rate in the range 144–360 Hz depending on the model, or 1440p panels that can handle between 165 to 240 Hz depending on configuration. The more expensive panel choices for Blade 15 and Blade 17 should also be able to cover 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color space, while simpler screens cover 100 percent of the sRGB spectrum. Finally, Razer strikes a big blow for the fact that the Blade 17 comes with an 82 watt hour battery and a 280 W gallium nitride charger.

In terms of price, Blade 14 starts at 2,200 euros, while Blade 15 steps up to 2,800 euros, and Blade 17 starts at 3,000 euros. The prices correspond to approximately SEK 23,000, 29,000 and SEK 31,000, respectively. The pre-booking date to nail in the calendar is January 25 for Blade 15 and 17, and February 10 for at least Blade 14. These dates are through Razer’s own online store. For those who wish to buy from selected retailers, the launch is expected to take place sometime during the first quarter of the year.
