Ray-Ban and Facebook introduce smart glasses

Ray-Ban has in collaboration with Facebook launched the smart glasses Stories. The glasses can, among other things, take pictures, record video and be used to answer calls.

Stories offers two 5MP cameras, a speaker, three microphones, and a touchpad. The glasses are sold in various classic designs such as Wayfarer, Round and Meteor. The limit for video recording is 30 seconds.

Computational photography is used to enhance the images, and there is HDR support, a night mode, and video stabilization. The built-in storage should be sufficient for at least 500 images and around 30 videos. The microphones have built-in noise reduction to improve voice quality.

Google Glass sparked a privacy discussion to make it easier to film the environment in secret without anyone noticing. Facebook writes that Stories has LED lights that light up during photography and recording, so that people in the area can see that they are being filmed.

A new app called Facebook View is used to share content to social networks and messaging services such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, WhatsApp and Snapchat. The material can also be shared by phone.

The glasses are charged via a case. When the case is fully charged, it should be enough for three days of using Stories. Ray-Ban will only sell Stories in a handful of countries, including the UK, Ireland and Italy. The price is 299 dollars.

From daily activities like riding your bike to special milestones like your favorite music festival, Ray-Ban Stories’ dual integrated 5MP cameras let you capture life’s spontaneous moments as they happen from a unique first-person perspective.

You can easily record the world as you see it, taking photos and up to 30-second videos using the capture button or hands-free with Facebook Assistant voice commands.
