Rachel Varela. Academics speak of an attempt to discredit and envy
The controversy surrounding the “errors” in Raquel Varela’s curriculum is far from over. i spoke with university investors regarding repetitions of articles and books, which have led the Institute of Contemporary History (IHC) to withdraw its support for its candidacy for the fourth edition of the Contest to Stimulate Individual Scientific Employment, promoted by the Foundation for the Science and Technology (FCT) and the opinion is unanimous: it is an attempt to discredit those who have opposing opinions and envy among the Portuguese academic milieu, which is considered small.
Henrique Oliveira, mathematician, researcher and professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) guarantees that he has a contrary opinion in relation to the historian, in terms of covid, and applauds the initiative of the Público newspaper to have “censored” Pedro Girão’s article, but he says the attack being made on his resume makes no sense. “I agree with what Público did regarding Pedro Girão because what they wrote is completely unfounded from a scientific point of view, it is almost criminal, but the attack they are making against Raquel Varela is unfair. I know her CV very well and all this controversy is completely nonsense”.
