Questions from under the rug

Wonders of faith and spirituality – stands on the cover of Sára Tóth’s book Everything Is Here. However, we are wrong to guess simple content behind a seemingly simple subtitle. By the end of the book, I had taken a completely different view of my faith, the questions of life and God that were straining the earnest soul of the Christian. But what could be the secret of Sára Tóth’s book?

There is one thing in common in the writings in this volume: they do not contain exact, mouth-watering solutions or advice on how to think about it.

Thus, the word “reflections” on the cover perfectly embodies what this book offers: it offers a new approach to long-standing questions, pulling Christians — and non-religious individuals alike — out of the mantras of entrenched answers. It does all this by bringing the dilemmas related to faith and religion closer to people, adapting them to the realities of our time.

“The Word splits in two, offends, calls for choice. It reveals the drama of “or-or” and rejects “is-is”, writes Sára Tóth, meaning that Everything is here, in addition to wonder, strengthens us in our faith while not brickling about the difficulties of the Christian life.

In an age of technology, of unfailingly rapid change, the younger generations are finding it increasingly difficult to do so, not only in terms of their careers and studies, but also in terms of choosing a partner.

In the age of ‘anything is possible’, indecision and indecision are becoming more and more present, so many are already in their thirties by the time they start building their own and family lives. According to Sára Tóth, the philosophy of “marriage in heaven” is anxious and makes it difficult to choose a partner. We cannot expect marriage to fill our unfinished lives, to fill our gaps.

If something goes wrong in our marriage, it is easy to grasp God and think we have misunderstood the signs of heaven. In reality, however, “marriage is not decided at the time of the choice of a partner, nor can it be permanently broken at the time of the choice of a partner.

You have to look carefully at who we choose and you can make a huge mistake, ”we read. Faith is not deterministic, walking with God “there are no matches played.” The writer gives similarly honest answers to questions such as whether worship should be enjoyed, which is rooted in Protestant rigor, but also writes about the difficulties of prayer and the change and nature of our growth.

Sára Tóth asks the unpleasant questions that we often sweep under the rug, and then from time to time – in this case, drawing courage from a book – we dare to face these questions for the development of our faith, for a better understanding of ourselves.

The only negative of the book for me is the downplaying of the gender issue, as the writer, who gives such firm and profound answers to other questions, turns to the anti-Christian ideology, which today causes serious social, political and value disturbances, with excessive naivety.

It is also important to note that many will not be told anything new by this volume, as we are all at different levels and stages of understanding and faith. Yet I believe that Everything is here will be able to say something new to those who are at the forefront of sanctification.

Nowadays, when divisions in church life, regardless of denomination, are growing at the political, ideological, congregational, and human levels, it could not be more relevant to get remarkably new answers and approaches to our old questions. This is what Sára Tóth offers us, but it is up to us how much we dare to loosen our attachments, to ask the questions that bother us with faith, and to weigh the answers given to them wisely.
