He does not like it when other people violate his foundations, but sometimes events occur when a person experiences a painful feeling from what he is doing. In particular, the habit of perfect order sometimes leads to endless checks so that there are no violations somewhere. This gradually turns into rituals, and the person begins to constantly double-check whether everything is in place, ”the expert said.
As the specialist explained, this anxiety can increase to such an extent that he cannot even leave the house.
“When these symptoms already have a painful component, when they are already so disturbing that a person cannot feel comfortable, that is, it develops into a disease – obsessive-compulsive disorder. This disease should be diagnosed in a hospital with the appointment of appropriate therapy, ”added the interlocutor of RT.
He recalled that obsessive-compulsive disorder is a chronic condition characterized by the appearance of obsessive thoughts and actions.
“Many people confuse OCD with certain personality traits or habits, but there are diagnostic criteria. For example, an obsessive thought often consists in the fact that a person begins to consider certain numbers or colors as good or bad. Or, for example, he considers simple everyday habits a ritual that will save his life. This condition becomes very painful, because, no matter how hard the patient tries, he can no longer refuse it on his own, ”the doctor said.
At the same time, rational pedantry does not interfere with life and acts as a useful habit, the psychiatrist added. He advised such people to realize that discoveries “are born in moments of experiment, mistakes, and somewhere even deviation from the rules.”
“Allow ‘chaos’ to enter your life. At the first sign of excessive pedantry, ask colleagues and relatives to help you: conclude an agreement that for two days you will not arrange things according to your own rules and will not demand this from others – come up with the subject of an agreement regarding your behavior. The goal is to understand that it does not affect life. Monitor your condition, describe your feelings, ”advised the specialist.
