The PSD questioned the Government if it intends to extend the deadline for submitting applications to the Single Request (PU) for Common Agricultural Policy aid, which ends on May 31, in a process already criticized by farmers’ organizations.
In a request released today and addressed to the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Maria do Céu Antunes, the Social Democrats refer that the deadline for submitting candidacies to the 2023 PU, which began on March 1st, is expected to end on next May 31st.
“A term that began practically upon publication of the regulatory ordinances of the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy”, lament the deputies.
In the application, the PSD states that “in view of the immense complexity of the application processes, as well as the malfunctioning of the digital platform” applications were only made to the Base Income Support corresponding to just over 6% of the area defined as a goal, “an value far below what would be expected 20 days before the deadline”.
“Several farmers’ organizations have already come to request an extension of the deadline for submitting said applications. And the Minister of Agriculture and Food herself has already admitted that “not everything has been perfect”, leaving the door open to a possible extension of the deadline”, adds the PSD, countering that a possible extension of the deadline “cannot call into question the respective payments in October”.
Thus, PSD deputies question the minister about the current situation of the number of candidacies, by area, to the Single Application for aid successfully submitted and whether “an extension of the deadline will be granted”.
“What is the extension of the deadline? What did the main farmers’ organizations propose to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food? Do you maintain the commitment to fulfill the payments related to the Single Request for aid during the month of October 2023?” democrats.
The Single Application (PU) consists of the request for direct payment of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) aid that integrates the schemes subject to the Integrated Administration and Control System (IACS), provided for in community regulations.
