In the face of hybrid war activities taking place at the Polish eastern border, Border Guard officers, policemen and soldiers give evidence of the highest professionalism and devotion to the Polish state and its citizens. The National Bank of Poland wishes to commemorate their heroic stance by issuing a silver collector’s coin “Protection of the Polish eastern border”. The new coin with a nominal value of PLN 10 will be available from January 27, 2022.
What does the coin look like?
The reverse shows the profiles of the Border Guard and Police officers, a soldier of the Polish Army and the image of the Border Guard helicopter against the background of a fragment of the outline of Poland with the stylized northern and eastern sections of the state border marked.
On the obverse, next to the image of the eagle, established as the emblem of the Republic of Poland, the year of issue and the face value of the coin, there is the motif of the Polish border post.

Thousands of migrants at the Polish eastern border
– In the summer of 2021, Poland faced the greatest threat to its borders in many years. The dictatorial regime of Alexander Lukashenka in Belarus has begun bringing in, mainly from Asian countries, thousands of migrants hoping to enter the European Union illegally. Cooperation with criminal groups specializing in smuggling people and the wide distribution of visas have led to the concentration of numerous groups near the Polish border, seeking to cross it. Equipped by the Lukashenka regime with tools to destroy dams and with objects to attack the guards, they made attempts to break into the territory of the Polish state.
Gas and blast grenades, blinding lasers and pneumatic firearms are also in use, writes Artur Adamski in the folder accompanying the coin issue.
Polish officers thwarted about 40,000. attempts to illegally cross the border
– Officers from the Podlasie and Nadbużański Border Guard Departments, as well as their colleagues seconded from other regions, joined the active protection of the 418 km border with Belarus. Support came from the Police and the Polish Army – emphasizes Artur Adamski.
And he adds: – By December 2021, Border Guard officers, along with policemen and soldiers, had foiled around 40,000. attempts to illegally cross the border. As a result of migrants’ use of various forms of violence, many who were guarding our territory were injured. From the beginning of the artificially induced crisis, the Border Guard has been carrying out activities informing the newcomers brought to Belarus that they are being used to destabilize Poland. Those in need of assistance are provided, but only real refugees are allowed to stay.
In the face of hybrid warfare, Border Guard officers, as well as policemen and soldiers, give evidence of the highest professionalism and devotion to the Polish state and its citizens.
What issues is NBP planning in 2022?
For numismatists, the new year began with the issue of NBP collector coins “Polish Olympic Team Beijing 2022” – gold with a face value of 200 zlotys and silver with a face value of 10 zlotys. The next one will be the silver coin “Protection of the Polish Eastern Border”. This topic will also be devoted to the collector’s banknote with a face value of PLN 20, the issue of which is scheduled for May 26.
Earlier, on February 9, 2022, the NBP plans to introduce into circulation a gold coin with a face value of 500 zlotys and a silver coin with a face value of 50 zlotys from the series “Treasures of Stanisław August” – “Jan III Sobieski”. This year, the popular collector series “The Great Polish Economists” and “The Unbreakable Soldiers Cursed by the Communists” will also be issued.

Collector’s notes and coins issued by the National Bank of Poland
Collector banknotes and coins are issued for collectors and numismatists. They refer to important events, commemorate outstanding figures, authorities and their role in the history of Poland.
Collector banknotes, due to their specific nature, differ from circulation banknotes, e.g. richer symbolism of the images of people and events, the composition and details of iconography, as well as technical and graphic parameters – the number and form of anti-counterfeit security measures, colors, dimensions and printing techniques.
Similarly, collector coins minted from silver and gold can be made more attractive by adding decorative elements, e.g. amber, cubic zirconia, glass or ceramics, or by using additional techniques, such as pad printing, UV printing, selective gilding or laser matting.
