Pretrial detention for 29 suspects of human trafficking in Alentejo. Two remain under house arrest – Portugal

Twenty-nine suspects of human trafficking in Alentejo were held in preventive detention, this Saturday, after learning about the coercive measures.

Of the 35 arrested on Wednesday, only two were under house arrest and four had a term of identity and residence with periodic presentations.

The solicitor who had been detained for belonging to the criminal network is one of those detained in preventive detention.

The detainees are suspected of the crimes of trafficking in human beings, criminal association and money laundering. Victims were attracted under the pretext of better living and working conditions in Portugal.

The network, considered the largest operating in Portugal, was organized from Beja, but had branches in the center of the country and will have recruiters from other countries, namely Romania, Moldova, India, Senegal, Pakistan, Morocco, Algeria, between others.

The investigation by the PJ began about a year ago and focused on the recruitment by this criminal network of foreign workers with the promise of employment and housing.
