
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two youths for occupying a brick kiln in Satkania, Chittagong. They were arrested from Laldighi area of the city’s Kotwali police station on Tuesday (January 30).
Arrested are Banskhali Upazila Md. Mohammad Noman (35) son of Taib, Mumtaz Uddin (40) son of Altaf Hossain of Eochia Union of Satkania Upazila.
According to RAB, the victim Ansarul Haque along with his friend Kamal Uddin had been running a brick kiln named Shah Majidiya Bricks in Eochia, Satkania for a long time. On May 23, a group of people led by accused Noman and Mumtaz attacked the brickyard. They looted and drove away the workers there. Later the accused took possession of the brick kiln. In this incident, on May 29, the victim Ansarul Haque’s wife filed a case in Satkania police station naming 21 people and naming 100 to 120 others as defendants. After filing the case, RAB raided and arrested the two accused.
Meanwhile, Kamal Uddin’s wife Mortoza Begum held a press conference at a restaurant in the city on May 27 regarding the possession of the brick kiln. There she complained that her husband was fighting with death due to cancer. He has been admitted to the hospital since May 16. On this occasion, Noman filed a false extortion case against Kamal Uddin and Ansarul at Satkania police station on May 22. Then occupied the brickyard.
