It has been a quarter of a century since “Porsche rescue” debuted. It is celebrated with an anniversary version with plenty of special attributes. And it has the right engine!
By the mid-1990s Porsche was having a hard time financially. At the Detroit Motor Show in 1993, the Boxster concept car was shown. The reception was positive and Porsche’s board intervened in the work of developing a production model by simply saying: “Build the car exactly as it is.” A wise decision.
The mass-produced version was launched almost unchanged in 1996 and is now in its fourth generation, having been produced in 357,000 copies.
25 years later, Porsche can celebrate The Boxster family’s silver anniversary with a special model, “Boxster 25 years”. The anniversary model is limited to 1,250 units and is based on the GTS 4.0 model, which has a 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine of 400 hp.
The model is offered with a manual six-speed gearbox and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox (PDK). The top speed is 293 km / h and in combination with the PDK gearbox and the standard-fitted Sport Chrono package, it fixes 0-100 km / h in four seconds.
The special model is easy to recognize via the new interpretation of the color Neodyme, a copper-like shimmering brown color that created an exciting contrast to the paint GT Silver Metallic, taken from the 1993 concept car.
Neodyme is used on the front spoiler, on the side air intakes, on the model designation at the rear and on the two-tone lacquered 20-inch rims. “Boxster 25 years” is offered in GT Silver Metallic, Jet Black Metallic or Carrara White Metallic.
Another design detail is the silver-colored lid for refueling, from the Exclusive Design department, with a texted “Porsche” inscription. The sports exhaust system’s end pipes are also made of high-gloss aluminum gloss, while the frame for the windscreen is foiled in contrasting black.
The interior has leather upholstery in Bordeaux Red in combination with a red convertible roof. The convertible top is embossed with the letters “Boxster 25”. Both leather interior and convertible top are also offered in black.
Some details from the new model’s comprehensive standard equipment are interior package in aluminum, 14-way electrically adjustable sports seats, entry moldings with the text “Boxster 25” and electrically heated leather steering wheel with multifunction.
Other parts in the standard equipment are the sports chassis Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) including 10 mm lowering and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanical differential brake.
The model can be ordered now and will reach dealers in May. Price from SEK 980,000.
