Pope wants communication that favors an integral disarmament of hatred

“Speaking with the heart” (Veritatem facientes in caritate) is the theme chosen by the Pope for the 57th World Social Communications Day next year.

A note released this Thursday by the Vatican explains that “speaking with the heart means ‘giving reason for the hope that is in us’ (cf. 1 Pt 3: 14-17) and doing it with meekness, using the gift of communication as a bridge and not as a wall”.

The note adds that “in a time marked – even in ecclesial life – by polarizations and exasperated debates that exacerbate souls, we are invited to go against the tide”.

The Pope invites communicators and media professionals to “not be afraid to affirm the truth, sometimes uncomfortable, which finds its foundation in the Gospel”, but without separating this proclamation “from a style of mercy, of sincere participation in the joys and sufferings of the man of our time”.

The Holy See reaffirms that, “in the dramatic context of global conflict, the emergence of non-hostile communication is even more necessary”. The bet involves communication open to dialogue with the other, which favors “integral disarmament” and strives to “dismantle the ‘psychosis of war’ that lurks in our hearts”.

The theme chosen for 2023 (Speaking with the heart) is also “ideally linked to that of 2022 (Listening with the ear of the heart) and wants to be part of the path that will lead the whole Church to the celebration of the Synod of October 2023”.
