On Sunday, a 35-year-old man fired an air gun at the windows of Hullo boarding house in Vormsi, smashing 20 windows.

Police were challenged in the shooting at 14.22. At 3.30 pm, the helicopter of the PBGB airfield from Kiltsi Airport started to take off together with the Haapsalu police patrol. According to Meelis Laurmann, the head of the Haapsalu Police Department’s patrol service, the take-off of the helicopter took a long time, because other modes of transport to the police were also considered. The police were in Vormsi at 15.42.

The police detained the offender on the island and delivered them to the Haapsalu ward by helicopter. “We have him in the ward right now,” Laurmann said. Laurmann added that the man would be released from custody within an hour once all the proceedings had been completed.

The police initiate proceedings against the man on the basis of intentional damage to property. The exact circumstances of the incident shall be determined by the procedure.

According to Vormsi rural municipality mayor Ene Sarapuu, this is Markko Targamaa, who does not live in Vormsi and was in the village with his mother.

Smartland has been in trouble with the law before. In 2019, Targamaa robbed the Haanja store. At that time, the prosecutor’s office accused the Smartlands of two crimes: armed robbery and illegal handling of firearms. At that time, the court sentenced the man to three months’ actual prison sentence. The remaining sentences were imposed: three years and three months were then sentenced to Smartland on parole for a four-year probation period.
