Police are hoping for witnesses’ help in a car bomb case from Gladsaxe

A potential car bomb was placed on a dark BMW between Friday at lunchtime and Saturday afternoon.

At 2.20pm on Saturday afternoon, a man called police. He said that something strange was sitting on his car – a dark BMW, which was parked on Gyngemose Parkvej 6 in Gladsaxe.

Immediately after, the Copenhagen West Region Police moved out to the parking lot, where officers began to evacuate hundreds of residents in the area.

At the same time, the Armed Forces’ blasting experts (EOD) were called to the scene. Technicians examined the strange object and it culminated Saturday night when it was rendered harmless by being shot at.

Police are working on the basis that it was probably a car bomb that had been placed on the BMW of the SUV type. Now it is hoped that witnesses can help the investigation further.

– We are interested in hearing from witnesses who may have seen something suspicious. One should not hold back. It may turn out that what may seem like a small thing becomes very relevant information in our work, says Peter Malmose, acting police inspector at Copenhagen West Region Police.

Police are thus interested in both vehicles and people who have stood out or seemed suspicious during Friday and Saturday.

– Based on the available information, we believe that the object has been placed between Friday around lunchtime and Saturday around 2.20 pm, where we will receive the notification, says Peter Malmose.

Officers have also questioned the car’s owner, just as video surveillance from the area must be seen through.

Experts from EOD are working to clarify what the possible bomb contained and whether it could have caused an explosion. They will later make a final assessment.

The motive behind the mysterious object is not yet clear. It is not stated in detail what the object looked like and where on the car it was located.

– At present, we can not deny that the incident may be related to inconsistencies in the rocker and gang environment, but the investigation must reveal this in more detail, Peter Malmose has previously said.

Residents of the area were allowed to return home to their apartments after 1 a.m. Sunday night after several hours as evacuated.

If you have information about the case, you can call 114.
