A team of scientists from Gdańsk has developed a special fluid for storing organs during surgical procedures.
TTF may become a breakthrough solution, e.g. in kidney transplantation. It is about Transmedium Transplant Fluid, a fluid that strengthens the quality of the implanted organ and gives an opportunity to increase the effectiveness of transplantation, and consequently improve the quality of life of patients after transplantation.
On the basis of an innovative idea from Gdańsk, a company of the capital fund of the Pomeranian Development Agency – Transmedium was established, and it is just one step away from commercializing an innovative product. Poles want to introduce TTF to the international market. They already have a patent for the domestic and foreign market.
A team of scientists from the Medical University of Gdańsk and clinicians associated with the University Clinical Center in Gdańsk have long pointed out that improving the quality of organ storage fluid can reduce many risks and increase the effectiveness of this method of saving human life. This is how they created an innovative second-generation fluid formula for organ perfusion and storage during procedures, especially kidney transplantation. TTF is based on a composition of active substances that show a number of biologically beneficial effects, including anti-inflammatory, antiviral and protective effect. – The composition of the TTF fluid will reduce the percentage of possible complications and thus increase the probability of the transplant success, which may be of key importance in clinically difficult cases – explains Dr. Marzena Paluch-Skowrońska, Vice President of Transmedium.
Currently, from 3 to 40 percent. The kidneys require dialysis lasting several weeks after implantation. The new fluid is to significantly reduce this percentage.
