Spaniard Pol Espargaró (GasGas) suffered this Friday from injuries to his chest and back, after a violent fall in the second free practice session of the Portuguese Grand Prix, the inaugural race of the speed motorcycling World Cup.

“MotoGP rider Pol Espargaró suffered trauma to his back and chest. The rider is conscious and will be transported to the hospital in Faro for further tests”, reads a message on the MotoGP Twitter social network.

About 14 minutes from the end of the second free practice session of the Portuguese GP, at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, the Spaniard from GasGas suffered a violent accident, which forced the session to stop.

After being attended to on track, Espargaró was transported by ambulance to the circuit’s medical centre, before being taken by helicopter to Faro hospital.
