Playwright Mohan Khan is no more.
He died at 11:50 pm on Tuesday (May 30).
His nephew Tushar Khan confirmed the news of Mohan Khan’s death to Dawn paper.
Mohan Khan was 65 years old at the time of his death. He was under treatment for more than a month in a private hospital in the capital.
Meanwhile, Mohan Khan’s son Yusha Mohan said earlier this month that his father was first admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital. After that, when the situation worsened, Mohan Khan was put on life support.
Mohan Khan’s wandering in the landscape of the country is more than three decades. He has been producing plays since 1988. He also wrote plays. His first drama directed ‘Amar Dudhma’ aired on Bangladesh Television (BTV). He was praised for writing and directing dramas like ‘Samudre Gangchil’, ‘Sei Amra’, ‘Needer Chhoke Gangchil’, ‘Jege Utho Samudra’, ‘Meghbalika’, ‘Durer Manhoo’, ‘Angur Lata’, ‘Hridoypurer Kavali’ etc. be Lately he was in charge of program department in ATN Bengal besides drama production.
Mohan Khan’s son also said that Mohan Khan suddenly fell ill last month. After initial treatment and tests, they came to know that Mohan Khan has a brain tumor. The tumor needs to be operated urgently. Then the physical condition was getting better. This involves a surgery on the pressure point above the spinal cord in the neck. Since then his father was on life support.
Tushar Khan said that after all the formalities at the hospital, Mohan Khan’s body will be taken to his home in Lalmatia. His funeral will be held at Lalmatia Shahi Masjid after Zohar on Wednesday. After that, he will be buried next to his parents’ graves in Dhaka’s Azimpur cemetery.
Mohan Khan’s village home is in Narsingdi district. He has a wife, a son and a daughter.
