PIXI ABOUT IVICA OSIM: ‘It is certain that one of the streets in Belgrade will bear his name!’

He was a legend!

The selector of the men’s national football team of Serbia – Dragan Stojković Piksi was at the commemoration of the legendary Ivica Osim. On that occasion, he stated:

“On the eve of the trip to Sarajevo, I had a conversation with the leading people of the city of Belgrade, and it is almost certain that one of the streets in our capital will be named after the legendary Ivica Osim. He absolutely deserved it and I am very glad that Belgrade and Serbia will adequately repay one wonderful man and a fantastic football expert. Just to be patient, it is known that it takes three years from death to enter the procedure for the name of the street. ‘ – said Pixie and then added:

“One sad moment for all of us who loved Ivica Osim. He was a very charming person, a man who captivated with his knowledge, attitude and charisma. Someone who really borrowed football in the former country and left a deep mark abroad. I don’t remember his playing career, I was too young, but they say that he had the nickname Strauss from Grbavica, not everyone got that. His coaching career was impressive, I will always remember everything he showed us in training and the way he worked with us in the national team. Of course, the moments from the World Cup in Italy in 1990 are something special. Also, the qualifying trip to that championship, where we left one France behind, speaks enough about the feat and style of play under the leadership of Ivica Osim. To people who were not born in this area of ours, Schwaba’s thoughts and ideas were incomprehensible. He was very intelligent, each of his sentences had a broader meaning, he did not use phrases and he always sent a clear message of what he wanted and what his intention was. Only we Balkans were able to understand that in the right way. Apart from being a cosmopolitan, he felt good in Zagreb, Belgrade and Skopje… Ljubljana, Titograd, Novi Sad, Pristina… And they loved him everywhere. In short, he was a Yugoslav. To come to Sarajevo and pay his last respects is the least we can do for such a man with an open heart. Schwabo deserved it with his appearance, character and work! ‘
