Pixel tablet launches in June for $499 with dedicated charging dock

No new hardware was announced during the keynote speech at Google I/O on the morning of the 11th, Korean time. However, details have been revealed about the Google Pixel tablet and its dedicated charging dock, which will be released next month. The Pixel tablet, unveiled last fall, will be available in June for $499. Surprisingly, the charging speaker dock, which was assumed to be a separate purchase until the announcement, is included in the basic price. Pre-orders are available now.

Google announced the specific specifications of the Pixel tablet on the same day. When combined with a charger whose surface is covered with fabric material, it becomes a smart display. The Pixel tablet features an 11-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of storage space.

In addition, it is released in three colors of porcelain, hazel, and rose, and the front / rear camera is 800 pixels, and it is equipped with four stereo speakers and three microphones. It can stream video for up to 12 hours on a single charge and has a fingerprint sensor built into the power button.

As previously announced, the charging dock magnetically bonds with the Pixel Tablet, making it very easy to attach and detach. A 54.6-inch full-range driver is integrated into the charging dock base.

Beyond that, the Pixel Tablet offers a variety of general features, and when plugged into the charging dock, it converts to hub mode, functioning as a smart home hub. In hub mode, you can use the smart home panel, digital picture frame, and Google Assistant calling function. Surprisingly, Google Assistant was not mentioned at all during the product announcement.

The Pixel tablet comes with Chromecast built-in, and a Google TV app designed for tablets is also installed.

A $79 case is available with a metal ring on the back to hold the product up, and the tablet and charging dock can be combined while the case is in place.

Physical and functional specifications have already been revealed before, but the $499 price tag is surprising. Initially, it was speculated that the tablet alone would cost between $600 and $700, the charging dock sold separately for $125, and a total price of $800. But even with a starting price of $499, it’s still a lot more expensive than the $99 Google Nest Hub and $229 Hub Max.

However, the Nest Hub hardware won’t be released anytime soon, so until something new comes out that comes close to the next-generation Nest Hub display, the Pixel tablet will be the closest thing to the next-generation Nest Hub display.
