Pixel 5a: Google’s next midrange with dual camera and familiar design

By Paris Haviatsos

7 months after the release of Pixel 4a, the Google is working feverishly for her next midrange, Pixel 5a. The famous tipster, Steve Hemmerstoffer, reveals information about the design and specs of the new smartphone of the company that is expected within the second quarter of 2021.

In terms of appearance, the Pixel 5a is expected to retain its 4a design. It will have a screen 6.2 inches, OLED technology, with Full HD + resolution and punch hole for the front camera on the top right of the screen. Even the thickness of the bezels will be the same as the previous midrange device, although the Pixel 5a may be slightly larger in dimensions 156.2 x 73.2 x 8.8 mm unlike the 153.9 x 74 x 8.2mm of the Pixel 4a.

If the information of the well-known tipster is confirmed, 5a will keep the 3.5 mm port for headphones to be hosted on the top of the device. The volume and control buttons will be on the side, along with fingerprint scanner. The door USB-C will be at the bottom of the device and will enable fast charging 18W.

The Pixel 5a is likely to feature dual camera, which will be “borrowed” from Pixel 5. That is, it will have a main sensor in 12.2 ΜP and a wide angle in 16MP. The setup will be accompanied by an LED flash and another sensor that, according to Hemmerstoffer, may belong to the phase-detection autofocus system.

The fact that the Pixel 5a will look so much like the 4a raises questions about how Google intends to differentiate the two smartphones. The most likely versions are either to put a weaker chipset in the new device, such as the Snapdragon 690 and cost it cheaper, or just shut down the Pixel 4a.

As for its price, it ‘s early enough to be sure, however it will make an impression if it is very priced away from the Pixel 4a. Recall that the 4a was released at a price of $ 349 in its basic version and $ 499 in the 5G version.
