Phytium has developed an eight-core ARM CPU for desktops

We have already mentioned Phytium on our website, but in connection with server processors or HPC in general. At the same time, the company began to develop ARM processors designed for desktops, which is already much more interesting for the average user, both NUC and desktops in the style of large desktop PCs with the possibility of expanding with additional hardware.

The company with the full name Tianjin Phytium Technology has thus prepared the Phytium D2000 processor, which is an eight-core model derived from last year’s FeiTeng-2000/4. It has twice the FTC663 cores based on the ARMv8 architecture, but otherwise goes according to HKEPC basically the same chip.

We have four pairs of FTC663 cores that share 2 MB of L2 cache, while the common L3 cache of this processor has none according to the picture above, but Tom’s Hardware reports that there are 4 MB of this memory after all. It uses the latest company version of dynamic branch prediction as well as the latest versions of INT and FP units with support for ARM ASIMD instructions. And as a CPU designed in China for the Chinese market, the Phytium D2000 also supports SM2, SM3, SM4, and SM9 home encryption algorithms, as well as its own PSPA 1.0 security platform.

The FT-2000/4 and D2000 processors then share the same I / O capabilities and support DDR4 memories even in the LP version (up to 3200 MT / s). We have 32 PCIe 3.0 lines, two 1Gb / s Ethernet ports, 32 GPIO lines or CAN, UART, I2C, SPI and LPC interfaces. However, neither contains an integrated GPU, so it must rely on an external solution.

The manufacturer plans to clock the D2000 processor at 2.3 to 2.6 GHz with a TDP of 25 W. It will use a 14nm process for production, which should take place possibly at home, so we can consider the well-known company SMIC (Semiconductor Manufacturing) as a probable manufacturer. International Corp.).

Companies like Phytium can gradually establish themselves very well on the domestic market simply because the Chinese government is looking for its own alternatives for the products of Western companies, which it is also forced to do in part.
