The heavy rains on Sunday caused a lot of drama, especially in the Podravje area. The authorities are still assessing the damage caused.
We have already reported that Sunday’s rains caused flooding of rivers and torrents across the country. But this was far from the only trouble brought by the wet Sunday, because the ground was also moving. Especially in the area of Podravje, many landslides were triggered, and the authorities are still collecting data on the damage caused by flooded areas and landslides that threaten several buildings.
Such dramatic images, captured by a member of Meteoinfo Slovenija’s team of amateur weathermen, come from Orešje near Ptuj. There, a large landslide slid into the vineyard. As explained by Meteoinfo Slovenia, 108 mm of rain fell over this area, which caused the watercourses to rise sharply, the ground is very wet, which contributes to many landslides. One of the buildings is at great risk due to the landslide, so the four residents were temporarily moved to another location.
