Phantek’s wallet – friendly power supplies are stepping up in power class

Chassis maker Phanteks appeared on the radar of hardware enthusiasts when the flagship product Enthoo Primo debuted in 2013. With the successful model Eclipse P400, the company reached a lower price segment and thus a wider target group. The popular model has more siblings with alternative front panels, while the product portfolio has been expanded with more chassis, water cooling and power supplies.

The power supplies are part of the Revolt X, Revolt Pro and AMP series, where the former can operate dual systems and be interconnected to deliver more power. Reputable Seasonic is responsible for the hardware behind all three series and with this comes 80 Plus Gold certification and a warranty period of at least a decade. Phanteks is now expanding the fully modular AMP family with two new units that step up to power classes 850 and 1,000 watts.

The AMP family previously consisted of three models of 550, 650 and 750 watts and there is thus enough leeway for most computers, but with top graphics cards specified for power outlets north of 300 watts, for example, the overclocking fan can risk hitting the ceiling. Like the older AMP power supplies, the two newcomers come with a relatively modest length of 140 mm and a semi-passive position where the 120 mm fan is stationary at low load.

Included in the package are cabling for 24-pin ATX, 8-pin EPS, 8-pin PCI Express as well as several variants for SATA devices and a cable for Molex.

At the series’ launch in 2019, Phanteks emphasized that the power supplies are reasonably priced in line with the specifications, something that lives on even with the new additions. The 850 watt variant receives a target price of 130 euros, while the big brother costs 150 euros, corresponding to just over 1,300 and 1,500 kronor, respectively. The models will be available in stores sometime in July.
