Building a small computer is often linked to compromises regarding component choices, and especially when it comes to cooling. For obvious reasons, small chassis have less space to house large amounts of fans or radiators, which means that you sometimes have to worry about how powerful hardware can be installed. This is something Phanteks hopes to remedy with its upcoming chassis Evolv Shift XT.
In its basic version, the Shift XT is an ultra-compact chassis in the SFF segment adapted to the form factor Mini ITX. However, with the help of an included expansion system, the model can be extended in height in two additional positions. The intermediate position is to enable the installation of two fans in the ceiling, while the last position opens up for a radiator with associated fans to take place at the top.
The outside is made of 2.5 mm thick aluminum sheet and is available in the colors black and silver. The sides are perforated to allow air flow and also equipped with fine-grained mesh grids to avoid dust build-up. To contribute an additional aesthetic touch, the middle section on the front is made of tempered glass with a infinity mirror-finish.
On the inside you can see space for a motherboard in the form factor Mini ITX and a power supply slot according to the size class SFX. The chassis comes with a PCI Express 4.0 extension cable, which runs from the motherboard to the graphics card compartment. The latter supports graphics cards with lengths up to 324 mm, while it can take up a maximum of three card slots.
Phanteks is expected to launch the Evolv Shift XT sometime in February, and will then reveal more details about the chassis. The recommended price tag is set at 169.90 EUR.
