Peugeot 4008, here is a preview of the Lion wagon / crossover

The new Peugeot 308 is preparing to give life to an unprecedented model with wagon / crossover shapes in the style of its Citroen C5 X cousin. It is still not clear if it will be called Peugeot 4008 O 408but on the basis of the latest spy photos taken of the prototypes we were able to reconstruct the definitive appearance of this new car from the House of the Lion.

The debut of the Peugeot 4008 (or 408) is expected in the summer, with the start of sales scheduled forautumn of 2022. While waiting to see it in series version we can already anticipate the design with a exclusive render of that tries to be as faithful as possible to the final forms.

Thus the 308 changes shape

Let’s start with the name: both 4008 and 408 are names already used by Peugeot, respectively for the French version of the Mitsubishi ASX and for a Chinese variant of the three-volume and four-door 308. The fact remains that both names are candidates to appear on the front of the new Peugeot wagon / crossover, even if the 408 seems to be the most suitable to distinguish it from the family of French SUVs with two central zeros in the name.

For the style, however, it is easy to foresee a front taken decisively by the new 308, with the large front grille dominated by the new Peugeot shield with the Lion’s head and the long claw daytime running lights that mark the shape of the bumper. To characterize the front in a more sporty way, there will be an air intake at the bottom and some black finishes on the bumper, leaving room for the possible model code between the grille and the bonnet.

Cousin of the Citroen C5 X, but with the character of the Lion

From the 308 the new Peugeot 4008 should also incorporate the shape of the front hood, the rear-view mirrors and the door handles, in addition to the Lion logo on the front wheel arch, while the arched shape of the roof is inspired by the Citroen C5 X. The raised waistline in the rear door and the silhouette of the roof descending towards the rear, but with a different “elbow” from the Citroen at the level of the rear pillar.

Mechanically, the Peugeot 408 Crossover will be based on the EMP2 V3 platform of the new 308 which is front-wheel drive and can accommodate thermal and plug-in hybrid, but not electric, engines. It is therefore easy to expect a new electrified Peugeot in plug-in hybrid version with combined power of 225 CV12.4 kWh battery and eight-speed automatic transmission.
