Police discovered the contraband on Thursday in the port of Paita in northern Peru, near the border with Ecuador. The cocaine was hidden in a refrigeration system on board a freighter carrying a cargo of asparagus.
The container was supposed to be unloaded in one of the Belgian ports. Police are now continuing to search more than 80 other containers on the ship.
Peruvian authorities have previously reported seized cocaine in packages covered in various symbols, but never before had the flag of Nazi Germany been among them.
According to the estimates of the Peruvian authorities, about 100 tons of drugs are produced annually in this South American country. Most of this amount is taken to Europe by ship, but narcotics are transported from Peru to Bolivia, for example, on board small planes.
According to UN data, Peru is the second largest grower of coca and the second largest producer of cocaine in the world after Colombia.
