Niantic is a studio known primarily for its field AR games, such as Pokémon GO or Ingress. Yesterday it officially announced its new project – Peridot.
At first glance, Peridot appears to be very similar to Pokémon GO. Here, too, the fun will revolve around collecting colorful creatures visible through the iPhone’s lens. The main difference is that while in the previous game the player caught pokemons and trained them to fight, in Peridot the gameplay will mainly focus on breeding and dealing with virtual animals, which is to include, among others feeding them, playing with them and taking them for a walk (so it’s not surprising that many internet users compare Niantic’s new game to the Tamagotchi toys that were once popular). According to the creators’ announcements, each creature will have a unique appearance and character, and breeders will be able to cross them with each other to create new subspecies.
The exact release date of Peridot for iOS has not been announced yet. The developers intend to start open beta tests in selected countries soon, but their list has not been disclosed yet.
