Pentagon held talks with Turkey regarding the Airport in Kabul


Answering the question at the daily press conference about the words of Hulusi Akar, the Minister of National Defense, that Turkey can ensure the security of Kabul Hamid Karzai International Airport if the conditions are met, Kirby stated that he was not aware of these statements but that he had talks with Ankara on this issue.

Kirby said, “We have ongoing discussions with Turkish leaders about their plans to provide security for the airport. The goal is to ensure peace in Afghanistan. We have historical brotherhood. We want to stay in Afghanistan as long as the Afghan people want and be able to help.”

US WITHDRAWES SOLDIERS

The USA made an agreement with the Taliban in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on February 29, 2020, and promised to withdraw all its troops from Afghanistan on May 1, in accordance with the agreement.

US President Joe Biden, who took over the post on January 20, 2021, announced on May 1 that it was not possible to withdraw completely, and then ordered the withdrawal of all American soldiers in the country until the anniversary of September 11th.

According to data from the US Central Command (CENTCOM) Command, 50 percent of the withdrawal has been completed.
