Penguin Random House acquires Roca Editorial

Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial has announced on Monday the acquisition of Roca Editorial, founded in 2003 and directed by Blanca Rosa Roca since its creation. The operation represents a new step in the collaboration that both firms began in 2007 in the publication of paperback books and the distribution of Roca’s paper titles in Spain and Latin America.

Founded in Barcelona in September 2003 by six partners with extensive experience in the book world, Roca Editorial launched its first titles in March 2004 and has managed, under the leadership of Blanca Rosa Roca, to be one of the ten most independent publishers. important in Spanish.

With a catalog made up of more than 1,100 titles of fiction, non-fiction, children’s and youth literature, and comics distributed on the Roca, Corner, Sapristi, and Roca Bolsillo imprints, Roca Editorial publishes around 150 titles a year by national and international authors such as Elia Barceló, Dulcinea, Fernando Rueda, Cristopher Paolini, Nicholas Sparks, John Verdon, among others.

The general director of Roca Editorial, Blanca Rosa Roca, has been “proud” of the work achieved by the current partners of the firm, Carlos Ramos, Ángel Molina, Sunsi Molins and Silvia Fernández. The publisher recalled that they all worked together at Ediciones B and founded the new label “with the motto ‘a small great publishing house'”.

“The big change came in 2007, when Noah Gordon wanted to publish with us, I’ve always been grateful. Soon after, we signed the paperback co-publishing agreement with Penguin. I thank Riccardo Cavallero and Núria Cabutí for trusting us, and I also want to thank our first distributor, UDL, who kept up so that our books reached bookstores”, recalled Roca.

The publisher also wanted to show its gratitude to the authors who have chosen Roca to publish their books, the literary agents, the booksellers, the Roca team – “with whom we have lived through good and bad times and it has always been an incredible team ”–, as well as journalists and the media for helping to disseminate the firm’s books.

For her part, the general director of Penguin, Núria Cabutí, highlighted the “special affection” that the label feels for Roca’s books, since the publisher has been collaborating with the distribution of its titles for 15 years. “I thank Blanca Rosa Roca, an admirable editor who has done a commendable job, for leaving us in the care of Roca Editorial”, added Cabutí.
