Pencak Silat Becomes a Tool for Indonesian Diplomacy in Japan

jpnn.comTOKYO – Pencak silat can be an effective tool to promote Indonesian cultural arts in Japan, said Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi.

“Next year, the relationship between Indonesia and Japan will be 65 years, pencak silat can be one of the flagship programs for promoting arts and culture as part of a series of celebrations,” said Heri, as quoted in a statement by the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Tuesday.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo in collaboration with the Indonesian community in Japan held a friendly activity between Indonesian silat universities in Japan which was attended by 10 martial arts colleges at the Indonesian Hall of the Republic of Indonesia School in Tokyo (SRIT) on Sunday (28/8).

Heri said that in the near future there will be a competition between martial arts schools in Japan.

“Maintain friendship among all Indonesian pencak silat universities in Japan. All of you are ambassadors of Indonesian arts in Japan, so always carry the good name of Indonesia,” he said.

The gathering was also held to commemorate the 77th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.

Friendship is the highlight of the event.

More than 70 fighters who were present at Balai Indonesia also performed various silat moves from various universities. (ant/dil/jpnn)
