Passengers are walking to their destinations

He said, I left for Dewanhat on foot after standing for a long time without getting a car. I don’t have money to ride a rickshaw. So you have to walk. The suffering of the poor like us.

Bobby Das Gupta was walking to his destination from Wasa Mor in Chittagong. He said, I have to go to the office. Even if the bus is stopped, there is no way to go to the office. So I am going to Agrabad on foot.

Meanwhile, there have been complaints of obstructing transport workers from plying CNG-powered buses in some places including the Tigerpass junction of the city.

Belayet Hossain, president of Chittagong Metropolitan Paribahan Malik Group, said on Saturday morning that diesel-powered buses have been stopped in Chittagong. However, CNG-powered buses are plying.

He said that the price of oil has increased, but the rent has not increased. Therefore, till the fare is rescheduled, I have stopped the operation of buses that run on fuel oil.

When asked why the workers are obstructing the traffic, he said, none of our workers are creating obstacles to stop the bus movement. Those who are obstructing should be brought under the law.

He said, about seven hundred buses ply in the city under our association. More than five hundred of these buses run on oil.

Belayet Hossain, president of Chittagong Metropolitan Paribahan Malik Group, said last night (Friday) that public transport will not run from today.

Belayet Hossain said that the petrol pumps did not supply oil at night due to the increase in the price of fuel oil. The government has increased fuel prices by 42 percent. It is not possible for us to buy fuel at such a price and drive a car at the same fare. Because of the increase in oil prices, all the money that will come from the rent will have to come to the petrol pump. By doing this, the salary of the worker will not be paid, nor will the installment of the car. For this reason it is better not to drive.

He said that the price of oil has increased but the government has not announced any increase in bus fare. As a result, if the car driver and helper go to collect extra fare from the passengers from morning, there will be fights and commotion with the passengers. It is better to stop traffic. So I have decided to stop the traffic in Chittagong city.

It may be noted that the revised prices of diesel, kerosene, octane and petrol have come into effect from Friday (August 5) at 12:00 pm. At the consumer level, the retail price of diesel and kerosene is Tk 114 per litre, octane at Tk 135 per liter and petrol at Tk 130 per litre. Until now, kerosene and diesel were being sold at Tk 80 per litre, octane at Tk 89 per liter and petrol at Tk 86 per litre.
