Parliament. PSD wants Permanent Committee to meet once a week after dissolution

The PSD defends the functioning of the Standing Committee of the Parliament, from the dissolution.

The proposal will be presented this Wednesday morning at the conference of parliamentary leaders.

In statements to Renaissance, the social-democrat parliamentary leader argues that the government is not dismissed, it will be in full function and that it cannot fail to be supervised by the deputies.

Adão Silva also emphasizes that the Standing Committee has several powers assigned by the Constitution and that in this time of pandemic it can see its increased importance.

The social-democratic leader gives as an example the fact that the Permanent Commission is responsible for following up on the eventual decree of a new state of emergency by the President of the Republic:

The potential need to take measures to combat the pandemic, but also to monitor the Government’s action at various times, at a time when the Government is in full function, I reiterate the need to maintain the Standing Committee, after dissolution, even optimizing the its functioning.

The Standing Committee is a parliamentary body with fewer deputies than the plenary and with limited powers, which will come into office after the official dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic, a body that from then on the PSD wants to meet once a week and with the presence of members of the Government.
