Paint European landscapes on … toilet paper – PHOTO

An artist from Canada created a unique work of art in quarantine. Nethmie Hetti in May 2020, returning to Canada from Australia, was forced to quarantine for 14 days due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But Nethmie did not have a coloring book or canvas to paint and decided to use a roll of toilet paper she had in her luggage while returning from Australia.

Over the course of 320 days, the artist painted elaborate cityscapes and European nature on this roll of toilet paper. She christened the continuous 11-meter-long panorama “The Role of Escape”, which is also a reflection on the trips she made in the past.

“There were days when all I expected to do was paint on this endless canvas,” Hetti said of her experience. “There were days when I painted for so long that I instinctively had the urge to do it in pieces. There were days when I made a mistake in my painting and was tempted to throw the whole roll. But then I realized that it has nothing to do with erasing mistakes or creating the illusion of a canvas with a perfect image. It has more to do with being able to catch up again and move on, knowing that you can give yourself the opportunity to become better at his art, “he added.

“As, day by day, as the madness of being absorbed in this continuous roll of toilet paper evolved, it also offered me routine, calm, creativity and comfort in difficult times,” he confesses.

“Virginia Woolf once said, ‘Happiness is the quiet, everyday thing.’ A table, a chair, a book with a paper cutter between its pages. The petal that falls from a rose and the light that flickers as we sit in silence “. How true it is that everyday objects that are in everyone’s home without any significance (like toilet paper) have suddenly become a symbol for 2020! I redefined what this household item means to me simply by doing it as my art therapy “.
