Reuse packaging rather than throwing it away? The idea is not new, but promising. Forty years after the time when consumers brought glass bottles back to their grocers in exchange for a few cents, “The craze for reuse is growing”, observes Lila Durix, Danone’s packaging CSR project manager. “It is a trend which is accelerating in all countries”, warns Arnaud Rolland, CSR director of CCEP, the Coca-Cola bottler for Europe, which already achieves 16% of its volumes in reuse. Cafés, hotels, restaurants and their suppliers – brewers and mineral producers – today concentrate almost all of this circular packaging, mainly glass.
