over 40 thousand accesses in one month of augmented reality in Bucharest

The biggest augmented reality festival in Romania, XR Month, took place in Bucharest, in the IOR Park between October 15 and November 15. Second Edition, BestiAR, brought 10 creatures inspired by Romanian folklore and the mythologies of other cultures to one of the city’s large parks, as augmented reality filters. Through a new type of exploration of tangible and intangible heritage, passers-by were invited to discover the beasts in augmented reality on one of the most popular social media platforms, Instagram.

The most fascinating and well-known creatures from Romanian folklore and from the mythologies of other cultures have come to life for the first time in augmented reality in a collection of 3D filters and facial filters accessible on Instagram. This year, the exhibition brought together 14 national artists and studios for the illustration and augmentation of creatures: Reuniform, Dan Pecete, Irina Bako, Alex Dohotaru, Augmented Space Agency, Adelina Butnaru, Andra Popovici, Cristina Frei, Tammy Lovin, Wanda, Bianca Jelezniac, Stella Caraman, Loreta Isac, Alina Marinescu.

The collection of creatures and beasts could be explored within two sections:

Freestyle section – The storks, the Kite, the Bears, the Bunny and the Dragon, in the form of 3D filters.
Open Gallery section – The Dragon, the Solomon, the Bunny, the Eel, the Kite, the Ogre, the Flower of Love, the Water-Stem, the Falcon or Mavka, in the form of face filters.

Filter exploration was done entirely on Instagram. To do this, visitors opened the QR code on the XR Month bookmarks and followed the steps shown on the screen. Filters can still be accessed on the XR Month Instagram page, in the filters section.

This year’s edition, started in Timișoara, ends with an impressive number of accesses to the 25 created filters – over 340,000, all over the world.
